What happens in a peer support meeting?
While each group may function a little differently, in general, you can expect the following:
- The group will be led by a trained facilitator. It is a judgment-free space and what you and other people in the group say is confidential.
- You can get to know other people who have the same challenges as you.
- If you’re comfortable, you can share your struggles, challenges and experiences with mental health.
- You can give and receive emotional support and practical help for your mental health from the facilitator and other participants.
- A support group can help you develop skills and build confidence to live better with your mental health challenges.
